Locals in Mexico Say: “This Isn’t Tulum Anymore”

From Mexico City to Oaxaca to Tulum, protests and online campaigns have erupted with one clear message: “Mexico is not your playground.” Locals are voicing outrage over what they see as a wave of digital nomads, remote workers, and wealthy expats driving up rent prices, displacing local businesses, and eroding traditional Mexican culture.

The irony? Many of the same progressive policies that opened America’s southern border are now backfiring in Mexico as Americans, Canadians, and Europeans flood in to escape the high costs and dysfunction of their own countries.
