New York is escalating its response to a growing measles outbreak. Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a State Disaster Emergency as confirmed cases climb across rural communities and neighboring states.
108 Cases Reported: As of October 3, New York had recorded 108 confirmed measles cases in 2026, including seven in New York City and 101 elsewhere in the state. Since July 15, 92 cases have been reported among under-immunized rural communities across 18 counties.
Emergency Order Expands Vaccination ACCESS: Hochul’s executive order expands the pool of healthcare professionals permitted to administer the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine. Paramedics, advanced EMS providers, pharmacists and midwives can now administer MMR vaccines, while nurses receive expanded authority to order measles testing.

Since July 15, local health departments have administered more than 1,000 MMR doses in rural areas as officials attempt to increase protection in communities where vaccination coverage has lagged.
A Broader National Ootbreak: New York’s emergency comes as measles cases continue rising elsewhere. Neighboring Pennsylvania has surpassed 1,000 cases, according to reports, adding pressure to communities along the region’s interconnected travel and population corridors.
Hochul said the emergency declaration is intended to strengthen vaccination and testing efforts and prevent serious illness from a disease that can be prevented through immunization.

Prophecy Watch
Scripture speaks of pestilences and disease among the troubles humanity will face. That does not mean every modern outbreak represents a specific prophetic fulfillment. For Christians, the broader lesson is to remain informed, prepared and discerning while caring for vulnerable communities.
